Over the last few days we have been delighted to read some glowing reviews for a couple of our favourite wines:

‘The cooler side of St. Aubin emerges in the 2010 St. Aubin Les Frionnes. Precise mineral notes frame exquisite fruit in this delicate, impeccable Burgundy. There is an understated intensity in the Frionnes that is gorgeous. The rocky soils in this site trap the daytime heat, yet at the same time force the roots to grow deep into the soils for nourishment.’ 93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinousmedia.com

The following wines have been released by Château Latour in small volumes. These wines represent the last releases from the property for these wines, and the last chance to buy ex-chateau stock. They come with proof-tags and back labels saying they are the 2014 release.

The 2011 is a true classic of the style, less tight and a bit more spicy than some vintages on release. Nevertheless slow to open up, it has penetrating concentration in a mid-weight body, a nose which in its tobacco and cedar-box aromas shows a perfect ripeness, but is in no way overbearing.

Our introduction to the wines of Cigliuti was a bottle (followed over the ensuing months by several more) of their ‘Briccoserra, a 50/50 Barbera and Nebbiolo blend, many years back in Giuseppe Turi’s Putney restaurant ‘Enotecal Turi’.

The adventurous and sportif Paul Jacqueson and his wife Marie make wines of impeccable quality, when not climbing in the Himalayas, close indeed to their much more expensive cousins on the Côte d’Or. We have a particular fondness for their whites, and especially the Pucelle, which is a model of what a great Rully can be year after year.

Perhaps testament to the early autumnal weather or just to great affordable wines from the Rhone valley, we’ve still a small remaining parcel of this sumptuous Côtes de Rhone from top organic producer Christophe Delorme at Domaine de la la Mordorée before we move onto the 2012 vintage

François and Isabelle Lumpp own this impeccable 16 hectare estate in Givry, a region which is so often over looked by Burgundy lovers and yet which is capable of producing wines of exceptional quality as well as value.
