Perhaps I caught Le Pin at an awkward stage, but my distinct impression is of a wine marked by elements of dilution and very fragile balance. Élevage will be critical. Wines like this can sometimes blossom in bottle, so we will see. I tasted the 2024 from three sample bottles with consistent notes. Noëmie Durantou noted her wine has ‘the luminous precision of a French garden’, and these are some of, if not the most evocative and accurate, of the winemakers’ musings this year. L’Église Clinet is all about the perfume in 2024. The perfume is incredibly complex and detailed, with an entire library of scents, corridors of spices, and vaults of earth. In addition, there is a glorious texture here. This wine enchants every sense, and at this juncture, it is worth noting that the colour is unique, too. The freshness and grip are devastating, and the overall feel of joy and balance feels both anthemic and transcendent. This is one of the finest wines of the vintage. 19.5+/20

Dark and layered, with very good textural presence, the 2024 possesses notable depth. Black-toned fruit, leather, spice, gravel, incense and licorice convey an impression of somber gravitas. Some saignée in vinification as well as bâtonnage helped build attractive texture. As has been the case for some years now, the tannins are quite a bit less imposing here than they were in the past. Élevage, 65% new oak and 35% once-used barrels, will play a critical in determining the final result. Harvest started on September 18 for the Merlots and wrapped up on the 28th. This is a brightly perfumed wine with a red-fruited feel, and the Franc helps by adding miniature neon green lightning strikes to the deep, plummy fruit. The finish is minty fresh, and the oak appears pristine and almost aromatherapeutic.
