As ever we don't want you to forget about of our own Italian 'Supertuscans' that we are so proud to represent in the UK: Le Macchiole, Castello del Terriccio, Magliano and Monteti but we would be failing you if we didn't offer today's releases of three other great wineries from this exciting region.
Brilliant '99 point' Brunello - First release of Fuligni's 2010 Riserva 'The year 2010 for Brunello di Montalcino is the greatest modern vintage of Italy’s most famous red wine region. Never have the wines been so profound in quality, character, and quantity from the best hillside vineyards of Montalcino.
With eager anticipation we gathered. On the day that marked Back to the Future Day, we were jouneying back before Marty McFly to a time when the height of sophistication was a cheese and wine party. But there were to be no cubes of supermarket cheddar and pineapple on cocktail sticks for us, we were going to do cheese properly.
Good to see Okwui Enwezor (head of this year’s Venice Biennale) is a man of taste in more ways than one. It this week’s FT ‘How to Spend it’
New releases of Le Macchiole, including Paleo, Messorio & Scrio 2011. This year's releases from Le Macchiole are as great as the 2010s. The Paleo continues to confirm its place as the estate's signature wine. The Scrio - highly praised for the continued shift in style toward greater finesse - sold out fast last year and last year's buyers will take preference.
Over the last few days we have been delighted to read some glowing reviews for a couple of our favourite wines:
Great excitement has greeted the release of the 2010 vintage of Antinori’s ultimate flagship wine, Solaia. Two critics have already hailed it as the best vintage yet of this intense, classical Cabernet-based SuperTuscan, and this certainly looks to be one not to miss.
Agostino Lenci of Fattoria di Magliano wrote to us excitedly this week, with the news that in the 2013 'Vinellando', a competition organised by the local trade bodies for Morellino di Scansano, his 2011 MORELLINO DI SCANSANO Heba Fattoria di Magliano came out top.
Yes I know it's Wimbledon week, but it is still with great surprise that I find we still have a few places available for this exceptional wine dinner on Thursday.
The L&S Christmas Hamper case The cut-off for country deliveries is fast aproaching (you need to get your order in by Sunday night to be sure of getting your wine for Christmas). Part of the problem is often just making a choice, so here is a mixed case of our favourites in our enormous range which will sort out a multitude of Christmas drinking opportunities.
SOLD OUT On Thursday 13th December we are hosting our final wine dinner of 2012, in one of our favourite dining rooms in London, the private room at the River Café, with the wines of Castello del Terriccio. Patrick Sandeman was the first 'outsider' (not from the estate staff) other than the consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, to taste these wines, back in the early '90s.
Beaujolais Villages Nouveau from Domaine Rochette - which can be ordered on the website now for delivery on release day (for those of you in London at least) which is tomorrow, Thursday 15th Nov., or bought in the shops from tomorrow late morning.
