This morning sees the release of one of Britain’s favourite clarets, Léoville Barton (£430). A second growth from one of the great terroirs of Saint Julien, Barton offers quality that vies with many much more expensive ‘super-second’ wines
Although we have championed some of the lesser wines as value for the drinker who does not mind tying up some cash now, we are increasingly thinking that the best thing that can be said about this campaign is that it is nearly over.
After 4 days off, the Bordeaux releases have started early today and in great quantity. Amongst those throwing their hats in the ring are some big names like Château Figeac and Château La Conseillante and also some of our perennial favourites, the superb value wines from Château Ferrière in Margaux, and the hugely appealing Pauillac - Château Haut-Bages Liberal.
We’re delighted that Matthew Jukes included the Monfil in his Daily Mail piece today as ‘..the best value red of the year to date!’
From Thurs 21st May, wine lovers will have a new kind of bar they can visit to feed their curiosity.
Twenty-six years on and still totally independent wine merchants, our highly acclaimed list reflects our relentless globetrotting in search of wines that offer interest and quality at the right price. Lea & Sandeman are excited to bring a selection of these wines to the London Wine Fair ‘View Tastings’ for the first time.
A whole host of releases this morning includes some of our primeur favourites - Château Haut Bailly hits the market at £425/12. We were hugely impressed by the wine, pert, elegant and polished - a really lovely Pessac, as Jancis says: 'Rich and substantial but racier than the old Haut-Bailly style.
Château Pontet Canet has just come out and is yours for £648 per dozen. This great estate has gone from strength to strength over the last decade, the first Cru Classé to go fully bio-dynamic, they have re-introduced horses to work the vineyards, not to mention new concrete tanks and the rows of amphora that are an impressive sight in the chais.
Already this morning a host of interesting wines have been released. The highest profile is Château Calon Ségur at £415/12. There is a lot to recommend about this estate which is really on the move, thanks to huge investment from new owners maximising this great terroir.
This morning sees the release of the three wines from Château Margaux. Without doubt these are some of the wines of the vintage. The ‘Grand Vin’ at £2340/12. We were hugely impressed by this classically sophisticated 2014.
In the shops we often find we recommend things we are enjoying ourselves or have tasted recently. My enthusiasms change with the weather, so we are just getting into Rosé time, but I have assumed you already have some MiP and friends to enjoy when the sun comes out (if not, what are you thinking of? Order Rosé now!).
