This afternoon we have the release of Bruno Borie’s much praised Ducru Beaucaillou 2014 (ÂŁ750/12). Like LĂ©oville las Cases (ÂŁ895/12, released on Friday) Ducru has been said by critics to be close to, or even equal to the quality of the First Growths, but at less than half the price.

This afternoon has seen the release of another of the 'Super Second' Saint Julien Chateaux - Léoville Poyferré.  At £430/12 - this comes out at the same price as Léoville Barton. Jancis describes Poyferré as 'Rather glorious really' and Antonio Galloni notes 'This is without question one of the stars of the vintage.

After 4 days off, the Bordeaux releases have started early today and in great quantity. Amongst those throwing their hats in the ring are some big names like Château Figeac and Château La Conseillante and also some of our perennial favourites, the superb value wines from Château Ferrière in Margaux, and the hugely appealing Pauillac - Château Haut-Bages Liberal.

This morning sees the release of the three wines from Château Margaux. Without doubt these are some of the wines of the vintage. The ‘Grand Vin’ at ÂŁ2340/12. We were hugely impressed by this classically sophisticated 2014.

Chateau Haut Brion (Red) is a fabulous wine, but with older vintages available for very little more it begs the question we were asked this morning “Which major name is going to make their 2014 truly compelling?”

The arrival yesterday of Mouton and Lynch Bages finally struck a chord with the market. Well thought out prices mean that as 'primeur buys' these wines work. This small flurry has spurred on other châteaux it seems - and there has been a rush of releases this morning.

The ball has started rolling early this morning with 2014 CHĂ‚TEAU BEYCHEVELLE 4ème Cru ClassĂ© Saint Julien first out of the traps. As a brand this is one of the recent success stories of Bordeaux, it seems almost irrespective of the wine’s quality.

Having just got back from the wonderfully busy week that is Bordeaux during the en primeur tastings, we are pleased to report that some lovely wines have been made in 2014.

Whilst in Bordeaux, during primeur week, there was a bit of a buzz of excitement with some of the wines from Margaux – and amongst these Palmer was widely touted as one of the brighter stars in the vintage.
