Poggerino - Chianti, Tuscany Piero Lanza is one of Chianti's greatest young ambassadors. Located in the heart of Chianti Classico district the estate consists of 106 acres of vineyards, olive groves and woodlands.
As the NSPCC celebrates the 30th anniversary of Childline, we were delighted to be involved in one of the longer-running fundraising events for the NSPCC for our tenth year. This year's City Fine Wine Challenge raised a wonderful £186,500, so a big thank you to all who attended who make our work for this event so rewarding.
Brilliant '99 point' Brunello - First release of Fuligni's 2010 Riserva 'The year 2010 for Brunello di Montalcino is the greatest modern vintage of Italy’s most famous red wine region. Never have the wines been so profound in quality, character, and quantity from the best hillside vineyards of Montalcino.
With eager anticipation we gathered. On the day that marked Back to the Future Day, we were jouneying back before Marty McFly to a time when the height of sophistication was a cheese and wine party. But there were to be no cubes of supermarket cheddar and pineapple on cocktail sticks for us, we were going to do cheese properly.
We wine merchants don’t mind taking our work home with us. We don’t even really mind taking it on holiday…
I have for a long time had a fascination for Italian wines. It isn’t just their quality that interests me; it’s their unquestionable value too.
“Another fabulous set of wines from Castello del Terriccio” says Antonio Galloni, and he is dead right. At our tasting at the property last year with a four year vertical of both Tassinaia and Lupicaia, the 2009s stood out for weighty seamless supple silk textures filled with the finest of tannins and the juiciest character…
New releases of Le Macchiole, including Paleo, Messorio & Scrio 2011. This year's releases from Le Macchiole are as great as the 2010s. The Paleo continues to confirm its place as the estate's signature wine. The Scrio - highly praised for the continued shift in style toward greater finesse - sold out fast last year and last year's buyers will take preference.
Our Italian wine list expands year by year and this 12 bottle Italian Christmas mixed case makes a perfect answer to any question Christmas might throw at you. Fizz, white, red and even a little glass of Vin Santo,
Made by one of Montalcino’s top producers, at c. £20 a bottle the Ginestreto is a snip of the price of a Brunello (although relatively speaking Fuligni’s Brunellos still blow the socks off Bordeaux wines at the same price point), but still offers a beautifully balanced wine; its ripe cherry fruit and hints of tobacco leaf dressed in light satin tannins with a thirst quenching strand of acidity makes a wine suited to drinking on its own or paired with lighter dishes.
With 98 points, Fabio and Andrea’s 2010 Brunate looks a steal at its price compared to the six above it which average over £179 per bottle according to Wine-Searcher.
